In her musical career the pianist of Chinese origin has developed a versatile profile. She is pianist, pedagogue and musicologist. After receiving her bachelor’s degree with distinction in piano and musicology in Shanghai, she continued her studies in Heidelberg, Germany, and completed her master’s degree with a highly rated thesis on the piano ballads of Frédéric Chopin.
She was awarded 1st prize at the Lancaster International Piano Competition (2024, USA) and the "Silver Hands" at the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition (2024, Spain).
Apart from her engagements as soloist, Han Yan performs the Spanish and German Lieder cycles, which lie close to her heart, with the soprano Saioa López-Sánches. Even in her youth, pedagogy played an important role in her life. Many of her pupils have won awards at Jugend musiziert, a famous German competition for young adults.
In addition to her musical activities, Han Yan works as an art historian, writing essays for art cataloges and reporting on contemporary art for The Art Newspaper China. As a studio and gallery assistant, she provides support to artists in their studios and at numerous exhibitions and art fairs.
